Crank-forward bicycles are becoming very popular. They are a cross between recumbent and hybrid bicycles. They are comfortable, with the rider sitting in an upright position on a wide seat. When stopped it's possible to have both feet flat on the ground. The Rans Fusion is the most popular crank-forward bike here at bikes@vienna. It sells for $1025. In 2007 there was only one bike store in America that sold more crank forward bikes than bikes@vienna.
Tim Fricker, bikes@vienna's lead mechanic, teaches a 2 hour class in basic bike maintenance and repair, usually on the first Wednesday of the month. Topics covered include flat repair, brake and gear adjustments, basic lubrication, and performing a safety check on your bicycle. See our events page for information about the next class.
During these cooler months bikes@vienna is spreading the word about Draisin bikes in America, bike and trikes for individuals with special needs. We'll be traveling to exhibit the four models that you see in the photos. These German trikes provide a cycling experience for individuals who can not ride conventional bikes or trikes. The trikes can be outfitted with motor assists that allow for longer or more challenging rides.
We are looking for opportunities to have these trikes seen and test ridden. If you have an event scheduled in December, January, February, or March please with information.

We now carry the Trice line of tadpole trikes. The trikes have been produced since 1986 and are now owned by Inspired Cycle Engineering (ICE), an English company. The trikes are hand-built in England with hand-built wheels and custom-made spokes. The Trice Q has rear suspension and folds. Come in and see for yourself by taking one for a test ride.
Thule is doing a voluntary recall of hitch mount racks manufactured prior to 2007. These are the racks that slide into the receiver hitch under the rear bumper of a vehicle. These are not the racks that sit on the trunk or hatch of a vehicle and attaches with Thule's blue straps.
For more information on the recall notice, see the bikes@vienna blog entry. We are creating a customer contact list that will let us share information as it becomes available.
Bike Friday recently introduced a revolutionary new bike model, the tikit. Unlike previous Bike Friday models, the tikit was designed for quick folding. Most Bike Friday models have a "quick" folding method that is quick but not compact. The tikit folds in seconds. It's probably the fastest folding bike produced today. Not only that, but the name is a palindrome as well.
To see for yourself, visit the Bike Friday tikit page and click on one of the many videos of the tikit in action. An informative printable brochure is also available. Soon we hope to have a tikit in the shop for test riding.
Read all about the latest happenings at the store in the new bikes@vienna blog.
We rent, sell, and repair single bikes, tandems, recumbents, trailers, and trail-a-bikes. We want people to use a bike to have fun, to exercise for good health, to save money, and to protect the environment. Our bike shop offers high-quality cycling products and service, but what we really promote are values.
Our latest brochure (PDF) is ready to print and includes details on store hours, rental pricing, and more. It make a handy handout for friends and family.

The store is, in fact, about midway between Church Street and Maple Avenue (Route 123), and is accessible from a broad, unnamed alley that runs between those two streets. Coming from Maple Avenue (Route 123), look for Mattress Discounters and Floors USA; between them is our alley. Coming from Church Street, look for Terra Christa; by it is our alley. From farther afield, you can take the Beltway to I-66 to Exit 62, Nutley Street (Route 243). You then follow Nutley Street north, passing three stoplights and turning right at the fourth light, onto Maple Avenue (Route 123). A few blocks further, after the next stoplight, Mattress Discounters is your cue to turn left into our alley.
Our store is near mile 11.8 on the W&OD Trail. At Church Street, turn south. Cross Center Street and, on that next block, look to the left for the store tucked away in an alley.
Friendly people, humor, prompt service, great products, deep knowledge, individual attention, family/kid orientation, independent and local (Vienna) ownership, Adams Trail-a-Bike, Bacchetta, Barcroft, Bike Friday (BikeFriday), Breezer, Burley, Dahon, Easy Racers, Gary Fisher (not quite Gary Fischer), Greenspeed, Haluzak, J&B, Longbikes, Marin, Optima, Pashley, QBP (Quality Bicycle Products), Rans, TerraTrike (not quite Terra Trike), Thule, WizWheelz (not quite Whiz Wheels).
Bad attitude, long service waits, junk, idiocy (or should that be idiotitude?).
Have an old bike that you no longer use? Bikes for the World can put it to excellent use.
